Discussion Points

Well I wish I could say it's just been a crazy busy rush-around week and that's why I didn't write for Hump Day Confessions, but that would be a lie. Really I just got lazy on Tuesday and wasn't feeling inspired to write.

It happens.

The week workout wise was good - I got both a run and hot yoga in yesterday, followed by some frantic packing. Andrew and I are off to Colorado later this evening to meet the newest addition to his family - his new Nephew, Caleb! Can't wait to meet him!

I always like to try to utilize plane rides to do some longer-term planning; it's especially nice when Andrew is strapped into the seat next to me and I can talk his ear off and he has nowhere to hide.

Things to discuss with Andrew:

1.   Volleyball. It has been on my mind a lot lately, and I have a yearning to play it to some degree this summer. Baltimore has several beach courts, and I’ve seen a few things about some grass tournaments in the area, and I really just want to get signed up. CALLING ALL B'MORE VBALL PLAYERS, give me some guidance here.

I used to be able to jump before running took over my life.
2.   Bullet Proof Coffee. When I discover new fad/health trends that I want to try, I usually try to drag him down with me. While he didn’t jump on oil pulling (which I still occasionally do) I want to to hear his reaction to Bullet Proof coffee.  If you don’t know what it is, read more here – my cousin actually recently sent me an encouraging message about how much she loves it and feels great since she started drinking it.

3.   Puerto Rico. We have the flights and hotel booked, but outside of that, nothing. We need to nail down a few plans, don’t ya think?

TAKE ME THERE NOW
4.   Speaking of PR, I'm thinking about doing another 21 day detox come May 1. Puerto Rico is booked for May 23 so it would be pretty good timing. However I already have a few dates booked in May that would possibly have to warrant exceptions for staying sugar free... so we'll see.
5.    I discovered on Wednesday night that there is a Giraffe Manor in Nairobi, Africa. Basically, it’s a hotel on the property of a 140 acre giraffe sanctuary. Windows and doors are left open so that the giraffes can come visit whenever they want.

WHAT.

If we ever go to Africa, that’s at the top of the list.
This reminds me, we also still need to go check out the new twin giraffes at the Maryland Zoo!

Solid discussion list for the 4ish hour plane ride, don’t you think? I’ll leave you all with a new recipe to try this weekend if you’re feeling adventurous.

Eggdrop Broccoli Slaw:

-          1 cup broccoli slaw
-          Handful of chopped mushrooms (or onions or whatever you like)
-          ½ cup shrimp (mine were frozen)
-          ½ cup vegetable broth
-          1 glove garlic
-          1 egg
-          Salt/pepper/crushed red pepper to taste

Saute the broccoli slaw, mushrooms and shrimp in the vegetable broth and garlic on medium heat. Meanwhile, boil water and follow these directions to poach your egg.

Throw it all in a bowl, and gently ladle your poached egg on top. Season to taste. Good stuff. I <3 poached eggs.

I’m off to start my Friday. I’ve got a plane to catch and a baby to see. #Backthatazzup today for me, will ya?

Cheers -

A mouth full of porcelain

Once upon a time, about 5.5 years ago now, I smashed my face on the volleyball court and knocked out my front tooth. We’ve been over this before, I know. Today, a few dentist appointments, some whitening and a couple tears later, I finally have a beautiful permanent porcelain tooth to call my own:

I know you are all just as ecstatic as I am. It really brightened my week.

Another thing that brightened my week… before my dentist appointment this morning I hit the pool for some laps. The lifeguard was BLARING some awesome country jams and it made me so happy. When I did my 15 minutes of pool running at the end of the workout, I sang along and am confident that he was loving it. I mean, who doesn’t love a girl screeching along to country music in a hot pink swim cap at 6 AM?

Hmm what else… I think my foot’s getting better? I continue to not feel almost any pain, I’ve been icing it like crazy and limiting the pounding. I even hop down stairs on only my right foot. I plan to email my doctor tomorrow see what she says. Cross your fingers.

Until then, I continue to stick to the elliptical, bike and pool. I found out earlier this week that Jane hates the elliptical (who doesn’t) and barks at it while trying to climb on it with me…

Next on the agenda. It’s been called to my attention that the random poetic post about summer earlier thisweek may have been extremely premature seeing that it isn’t even spring yet….

I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love you guys. But I write for me, I write about what I love and am feeling… that’s why I love doing it. Speaking of my mom, I think I may need to hand over my title of smoothie queen to her. She has become a pro smoothie maker over the past couple months, and our freezer at home is STOCKED with frozen fruits and veggies. I woke up Monday morning to this note:

I threw a little something together following her guidance and came up with a delicious tangy smoothie. Mar, the smoothie queen.

Saw this, love it, set it as the background of my computer:
Andrew’s off getting rich in Vegas this weekend so that he can come back and buy me cool things, so I don’t have too many crazy plans. I have committed to returning to the inferno at which they host Hot Yoga on Saturday morning, and am determined to not let it ruin my weekend. Yoga is good, yoga is good, yoga is good.

If I keep saying it maybe it will grow on me.

Happy Friday Eve. Make it awesome. Tell me something awesome. Ready Go.

Cheers!

Falling Apart

I’m falling apart. Literally.

Not in a horrible, unfixable way.  But in a “Hey Kait you aren’t training very smart and we hate you for it” kind of way, says my lower body. Hence why I'm going to this doctor today.

And hence why I’m meeting with this lady next week and discussing my desire to bring her on as my coach the next few months leading up to New York.
Hey Kait, you're pissing us off!

But that’s not the WEIRD part of this post. Happy Hump Day,  by the way.

The weird part is, my tooth is falling apart.

fall 2007
I may have mentioned this before, but my sophomore year of college I managed to knock out half of my front tooth while diving for a ball during one of our volleyball matches. If I remember correctly, we were playing Toledo University. Ohhh, volleyball days. How I miss you.

I got my mouth fixed shortly after (obviously) and since then typically didn't even remember that that bad boy was fake. Until last month, when part of it fell out.

Luckily, it was just small piece from the back of the cap. You can’t tell from the front, but I can certainly feel a small hole in my tooth now when I run my tongue over it.

Moral of the story? My mouth is falling apart. And I need to find a good dentist out here, in attempts to not look like a homeless bum when the rest of it finally does fall out. Let’s cross our fingers that this doesn’t happen before the wedding I’m in in a couple weeks.

no need to be concerned Danielle. it's all under control.
Other weird bodily issues I have? Thanks to volleyball (once again) one of my tendons (or ligaments, I don’t know) in my left ankle is gone. It completely dissolved after rolling it/spraining it it so many times.

The result of this is that I have incredibly weak ankles, that click/crack anytime I walk/run. Just another reason why I typically prefer to run alone.

And last, but not least….

Movie theaters make me feel nauseous. All someone has to do is suggest going to a movie, and I instantly become nauseous. I still enjoying going to the occasional movie, but usually have to battle nausea the first 10 minutes of sitting in the theater. It started back in high school when we had to sit in the front row of the theater and I pretty quickly came down with motion sickness, and had to excuse myself to vomit in the ladies room.

That's my general feeling on the issue.

My body hasn’t forgotten that instance, and it literally took me years to be able to eat popcorn again outside of theaters. Wish I was kidding.

So there’s some weird bodily issues that I have. Anyone else have issues such as this? Please, do share.

Cheers!
