Doggy Approval

I Facetimed with my dog, Jane, the other night. I would say that’s a pretty good indicator that this weekend was the perfect weekend to pick to go home, seeing that I haven’t been back yet this year, and I can’t have her forgetting who I am.

Jane the Pain.
Luckily, Jane loved my new Warby Parker glasses (thanks to all of your for the feedback in deciding) so I’ll keep them around.

This week feels short, and busy. Maybe because it is? Monday was a ‘Work from Home’ Snow Day… and while I will complain about the snow, I won’t complain about my lunch break–

I’ve been trying to drink more water in the mornings, because I normally get to work and pound coffee like a mad woman and probably dehydrate myself. New rule – drink a glass of water before my coffee, and after.

Last night I did a spinning workout on my bike, paired with some intermediate jumping around and abs. I’m loosely following this challenge for March, I like the variety that it offers.

sorry for the weird graphic in the background

What I don’t like are taxes; I filed mine on Tuesday and for some reason I owe the state of Maryland money. I happily wrote them a check because hey they deserve it.

If we are being honest, I got pissed after H&R Block told me this, and immediately went upstairs and housed half of the paleo chocolate that I had just made. Don’t worry, the other half disappeared last night.

That’s about all I’ve got for this week. I would be surprised if I write while I’m in Chicago, don’t hold it against me. Andrew and I catch a flight back this evening, for a long weekend at home with my family and friends. I’m really looking forward to it.

I’ll leave you with this cool website that Mizuno sent me in an email the other day – What if everybody ran? Check it out.

Cheers to Friday Eve –

Anuli & Juma

Howdy ho, it’s Friday, we did it. Last day of the work week, last day of the shortest month of the year!

First thing’s first, how did Fabruary go? If you followed along, let me know your thoughts below, I’m curious. I think I missed a day at some point, but overall was happy to have something to keep me on track.  I’m currently in the process of making up some March goals, hoping to have them pinned down by Sunday.

there i am, writing my goals!
Andrew’s awesome roommate & GF signed me up for a subscription to Baltimore Magazine for my birthday, and the first copy came yesterday. Don’t worry, I was immediately informed via page twenty-something that the Maryland Zoo has TWO NEW female giraffes – Anuli and Juma.

I really like prunes. Is that weird? I feel like the word ‘prune’ normally makes people wrinkle up their nose and scream ‘gross!’ but I honestly like them. I keep this bag in my snack drawer and usually eat a couple per day. Pruney and Proud.

In case you are interested, the Crossfit Open started yesterday. I didn’t officially sign up through the website or anything like that, but each week for 5 weeks they will post the workout of the week, and you can try it out and compare your scores to others, if you’re interested and want a challenge. Andrew and I are going to use it as an opportunity to compete against each other. Neither of us are officially crossfit gym members, but will hopefully figure out ways to complete the workouts with the equipment at our normal gyms…. That’s the plan at least.

Crossfit is actually on the docket for 4:30 pm this evening, followed by a fun evening full of green. More details to come.

I leave you with another #backthatazzup jam – one of my favorite songs from the new Dierks Bentley album this week. Nothing screams Friday like ‘Drunk on a Plane’

Two Days

It’s snowing again today. I suppose I can’t really comment, as I’ve stated in the past that my personal rule is I can’t complain about snow until we hit March.

Two more days 'til March guys.

I realized that the combination of a beautiful weather weekend followed by three crappy cold snowy days of weather this week was been the perfect concoction for a bad attitude, and not feeling so hot. I have literally been a Debbie Downer to the point that I googled ‘things to do to make me happy’ … and super unmotivated to the point that I considered going to bed at 7:30 pm last night.

Instead, I went over to Andrew’s in full-fledged pout mode, and he did two things that I really needed.
  • Got me a mini cheesecake from Whole Foods
  • Told me to stop being a pansy

Fair enough. So I guess instead of sitting here being a crying pansy, I will do everything in my power to share positive things.

I’m feeling good about the workout balance that I’m finding over the course of this past month. Andrew and I recently bought a Bikram Hot Yoga Groupon, so that will now be implemented 1 – 2xs per week, on top of my twice(ish) a week spinning, running, and crossfitting. Pretty solid balance if you ask me.

Speaking of crossfit, here is my most recent WOD:

4 sets, for time
15 thrusters (45 lbs)
15 burpees over the bar

Total Time, 12:36. Shoulders are still feeling sore today.

I discovered a few challenging looking treadmill workouts on Ashley’s blog - I think I may try the one below out this week. I’ve been trying a little harder recently to find more blogger friends who I enjoy reading. Another is Becki over at Bites & Brews who is currently hosting a Craft Beer book giveaway if you’re interested!

Last but not least, one of my favorite ways to stay positive is to find quotes on Pinterest and share them, set them as my phone background, write them down, etc. I find a lot of power in simple words, so I shall leave you with a few.

Mega-thankful March

Well well well, what do you know. It’s March! And in my mind...

March = Spring

Or at least pretty dang close.

Raise your hand if you’re ready for spring?

I read several blogs that take the time every day or week to acknowledge things they are thankful for. I like it, and decided that I’m going to take the month of March to acknowledge more things that I’m thankful for.

have i used this pic yet? i don't remember.
Let’s kick off this beautiful 1st of the Month with a few things, shall we?

I’m thankful for my Friday morning spin class. At first my 5 AM alarm made me want to throw my phone against the wall and throw a fit like a small child. But now that I've consistently been going, and know the instructor, I definitely embrace it. I look forward to the instructor’s wacky stories about his wedding planning, and marathon training. I live vicariously through him while running is still banned.

He even throws a few random country songs in the mix during class. Love it.

My Friday morning home.
I’m thankful that I took the time to paint my nails last night. It’s part of my effort to stop chewing my cuticles to a bloody pulp, which I mentioned in my past post.

First time doing an accent nail! Thoughts?
I’m thankful for our awesome mail room peeps who so often help me out at work. So thankful in fact, that I brought them a little DD treat this morning. I also snagged a breakfast egg white sandwich for myself.

I’m thankful for my dentist appointment yesterday, where they sawed off my old fake front tooth, and gave me a crappy quasi-ugly temporary cap while my ‘real, forever crown’ gets made in the lab.

Oh wait, no I’m not. I’m not thankful for that. And I won’t be smiling for the next two weeks until I get my forever tooth.

I AM thankful that my foot is healing. I can feel it. I haven’t felt it yell at me for almost a week now.

#Score

Lastly, I’m thankful for my Chicago teams currently just tearing sh*t up. Do you know how happy it makes me to more often than not wake up to ESPN alerts telling me that both the Bulls and the Hawks won? I even wore my Black Hawks t-shirt to spin this morning.

That’s all I got. It’s Friday, it’s March. March Madness, baseball season, warm days, and miles of running trails are just around the corner. I can almost smell it.

Tell me a few things you're thankful for, in this very second!

Cheers!
