Trying it out - WIAW

For awhile now my pretend publicist and longtime friend Danielle, has been pestering me to throw together a What I Ate Wednesday post for you all. It's a popular Wednesday topic on the Healthy Blogosphere, and while I don't fully consider myself a Healthy Living Blogger, well, I try sometimes.

So I woke up this morning and said heck, I'll give it a shot.
You want to see what I ate today? Here we go.

Every morning starts with these little guys. And while they aren't food, I personally find them important. Calcium, vitamin C and Biotin (for beautiful, luscious hair).

Next up is my favorite breakfast that I discovered while trying the 21 day sugar detox - Plantain Pancakes. I prepare them almost every night before bed by blending two eggs, a plantain and cinnamon, and then frying those bad boys up in coconut oil.

Smother with almond butter and enjoy.

And of course, this is always a staple. Black coffee.

Here's where things get tricky. When my day got crazy and I started running around from work to errands to meetings to home to working out (that was my day in a nutshell) I stopped taking pictures. Hunger overtook my brain, and I stuffed my face before I could snap a beautiful shot of my lunch. So for the rest of the day, you get a list:

-Mid-morning snack: almonds and a banana
-Lunch: one of those Naked Vegetable Smoothies (it was a tomato blend and I didn't love it) and are you ready for this? - a cold acorn squash stuffed with tuna salad.

WHAT?

I know, it sounds gross, but I actually LOVED it. The tuna salad was simply a packet of tuna mixed with mustard, hot sauce, and chopped up carrots. I'm pretty sure most people would think this is the grossest combo in the world but I thoroughly enjoyed it and I'm not sorry.

-Mid-afternoon snack: chocolate animal crackers, an apple, and peppermint tea.
-Dinner: A sweet potato with an egg and a side of veggies.

As you can see, I try to stay fairly paleo, but don't kill myself over it. I would call this a fairly normal day of food for me, outside of the of the odd squash/tuna combo. Not the most exciting blog post, but hey maybe next time I try a WIAW I can slow myself down and take some more pics?

I also wrapped up the end of the October Challenges (cannot believe that November is on Friday) that I committed myself to - today I achieved this:

250 squats - never thought I could do it. It definitely gave me more of a respect for air squats, if nothing else. And a little more toneage in the arm department, thank you pushups.

I have a slight feeling I'm being chased by one of those fall colds that seems to nail everyone at some point, and am going to take a shot of airbourne and head to bed. Let me know thoughts on my first WIAW, if you think I'm off my rocker, or if you never want to see one again.

Hope Wednesday was fabulous, cheers my friends!

Oct.Toe.Burr

Does anyone know where the heck September went? Holy moly, I don't know about you, but it FLEW by over here in Baltimore.

I'm really excited for October. I have a lot of super fun things planned, the highlight being the 7-day cruise to the Bahamas that I won coming up in the middle of the month. My sis and I agree that it can't come soon enough.

I haven't thrown a monthly challenge out there for awhile, so I figured hey why not throw three challenges out there? I stumbled upon all three of these bad boys on Pinterest of course, the magical land where I spend too much of my time before bed.

got butt cheek?

Simple enough, wouldn't you say? Of course they will get a bit more time consuming later on in the month, but they work three different areas of the body that can always use a little bit of improvement. Join me for one, two or all, let's tone sh*t up.

This past weekend I was up on Long Beach Island in New Jersey for a coworker's engagement party. She nailed it, it was beautiful weather, and I even took a minute to sneak off to the beach and check out the New Jersey sand.

I was impressed.

Sunday morning before heading back to Maryland I nursed a slight hangover up on the rooftop deck with my coffee. I had one of those 'this is exactly where I'm suppose to be in this moment' thoughts pop into my head, and I felt blessed with all of the opportunities and adventures the east coast has thrown at me so far this fall, both large and small.

Morning posts are always a bit rushed for me, because I desperately need to get to work. I think we should talk about running next time, don't you agree?

I also think we should list off all of our favorite things about October. Ready, go:

Cheers to a new month! Let's make it fabulous.

Let's Chat

Let's have a little chat, shall we?

Let's talk about what I just whipped up to take to our small group tonight for a snackity snack:

That's right. Pumpkin Spice Rice Krispy Treats. THE PUMPKIN RECIPES NEVER STOP!!!

PS- I found the recipe here if you're interested.

PPS- Did you see what they now have at Starbucks? I want it so badly, but it was already sold out at the store I was at! Sad day.

Next, let's talk about how it's Wednesday, and how I've been a Weird Wednesday failure lately. And how failure the streak is going to continue into this week due to my current mental unstable-ness.

BUT, I do have one weird pic to offer you all:

no cameras allowed in locker rooms? my bad.

Who needs a waterproof Ipod case for pool running when you've got enough hair to just clip your Ipod in it? I clipped it in, and wrapped the cord around my bun a few times, and voila! I'm pretty confident the elderly folk in the 90 degree therapy pool I was running in thought I was insane. But who am I kidding?  I am insane.

Anyways, remember last post when I told you about the current state of my knee, and that walk I went on to sit and write? Well here's some of what I wrote about:

If you haven't picked up on it by now, I'm a huge goals person. I typically make monthly goals, seasonal goals, even goals for the year. I have had most of my goals for New York in line now for a couple months, and I already know what some of my spring goals for 2013 are going to be.

I literally just you that I'm insane about two paragraphs up. You're preaching to the choir.

October. A fantastic month. Leaves are changing and falling. Temps continue to drop. Girls and boys alike dress up in skanky fun costumes.

Not me. I was just a cute little helpless blind mouse.

I decided to keep October simple, for my own sanity that I don't have.

1. Be healthy. Obviously a lifetime goal that I have, but I plan to refocus on this hard the month leading up to New York. This goes for the food (and drink) that I'm putting into my body, the way that I'm training, preventative actions that I'm taking to prevent (ha) injury and nurse the injuries I (may) already have. Pretty broad, but solid in my eyes.

2. Focus on strength. I've never been a big lifting girl, not my most favorite thing to do. But I plan to be much more consistent with strength training through October. This will also involve DAILY push-ups and planks, because both of those are easy to do no matter where I may be.

3. Be happy. This goes hand in hand with #1, but I sometimes end up separating my mental and emotional health from my physical health, which isn't good. It's a simply idea but lately I've found it hasn't been easy for me. And it's effecting me, and my relationships with people I love. And to be honest, current state I'm not completely sure what it will take to move towards a more consistent happy Kait. But I know I have to make some changes.

Because apparently I haven't been fighting hard enough. Lucky for me, I know how to fight pretty damn hard.

Minutes after finishing The Boston Marathon, April 2012.

Enough of the sap/goo/emotional throw-up. There you have me, current state. Three simple goals, plugging away on the road to New York. Even if the road is currently in a pool.

Cheers!
